The last entry

In case you haven't noticed, this page is dead and has been for over a year. As my new site over at Snowflake In Spring approaches its first birthday I look back and failure to see any decent progress. Bits and pieces here and there I guess but it has resulted in what I'd consider a pretty good effort. Well this will be the last time you hear from me on this site. さようなら...

JCK2: JPop, CPop, KPop

Along with AnimeBlogger.net, I've now added a link to JCK2, a forum all about Japanese, Chinese and Korean music. This forum has been up for four months (I think) and they are growing fast. It's not just about the music. movies, fanfics and celebrity gossip also feature. So if you're into this kinda stuff go take a look!

Bring Back The Music

Finally I've come back to music. The playlist you see has only 7 tracks at the moment but I'll upload more to take it to about 60. Most of it will be Japanese though :p

Note: Your going to have to go to full view to see everything

I'm back!

Well you guys probably wouldn't have noticed anyway but I've just come back from a 5 day army camp in some random forest between Bendigo and Echuca. During the camp we had this 48 hour excercise which was simply awesome. The unit was basically split in two and pitted against each other in a war of stealth and strategy. On every camp (except the first training one) there's a theme which carries on for the duration of it. The theme of the last camp was the American Civil War. Langley Coy (The seniors) were the Confederates and Ramsay Coy (We, the recruits) where the Union. This time the theme was surprisingly different. It was Ramsay 6th platoon (Me) vs Ramsay 7th Platoon (The other guys). Langley was dived between the two and the airforce was thrown in to balance things out. The theme for the camp was Halo. Yes that's right, Halo. We were UNSC Forces and they were the Covenant. Anyway. I'll give you a full run-down later.

Street Fighter Comes To kpage

I've added a few games to my MSN Space now. On the front page are Street Fighter, Mario World, Yeti Sports 1 as well as the cool little animation. Feedback would be welcome as I know they don't work for everyone. Some of the gadets also don't fit in with the theme but that can't be helped at the moment.

Edit: I've removed Mario World and Yeti Sports 1 to reduce load times.

Edit, Edit: Oh yeah. Controls for Street Fighter are the arrow keys and A, S, D, Z, X and C

Some Day...

Today was a bit of a mix-up.
  • Grade six students from Essex Primary School came and attended our junior school assembly. This particular assebly was a singing one meaning we had to perform the pieces that we go through during massed singing. But before that happened the kids surprised us with their own two pieces. To tell you the truth we practically got owned by them. Grade 6!
  • We got held in from assembly and only got 5 minutes of recess because of an 'incidnet' during the assembly.
  • My Jap teacher was away today (hopefully for a while). We had a sub and basically talked and tried to play Big 2 (close to 13) without being caught.
  • In science we did some random activity that tested our short-term memory where we had to memorize list of words and a series of pictures. Some words were easier to remember then others because they stood out (cough cough).
  • Everything else was relatively boring.
  • At the end of period 7 we had a short form assembly to collect our dreaded reports.
  • Surprisingly I did pretty good with 19 Es, 8 VGs, 7 Gs, 1 S and only 1 U which I didn't deserve.
  • Went to get my guitar after leaving at scholl for the past three weeks. I get to the music room only to find a note on the door:

To all guitarists: Please do not leave your guitars on the floor or you won't get them back ><

I had left mine on the floor. I then proceeded to the music office where I was given a short lecture by Mr Chua before my guitar was discovered hidden between the printer and the hat stand.

  • I finally got out of school only to miss the 3:43 train and had to wait until the 58. Not that it mattered.
  • The train stopped at Hawksburn Station because a train in front of it (presumably the 3:43) had been 'disabled' as the driver put it. I where held up for 15 minutes beofre we finally got going.
  • A surprising reaction from my dad when I got home about my report. Hardly as bad as I thought.
  • Completed various menial tasks before ending up in front of the computer.
  • Thinking about enjoying the weekends.
  • Then thinking about the four projects which are due on Monday and Wednesday.
  • Then the five day Army camp from Wednesday to Monday.
  • The 48 hour stealth and recon excersise during the camp where I've been promised no more then 3 hours sleep.
  • Then finally two weeks of bliss...
  • Before I have to begin exam revision (or attempt to at least)

I can't be stuffed

I'm now going to something new other then Shakugan no Shana. I was going to show a clip for Another Planet by Kawada Mami but now I''m not. If you want to see it it is here:

http://www.youtube.com/v/NYIlxZ35Jow

Now this new video is a tribute to Euphro, possible one of the greatest private servers in the history of Ragnarok. I had an 18,000 word report I was going to post but second thought I've decided to cut it short.

Anyway...This particualr clip is the War Of Emperium of July the 1st. The day that Euphro had 3000+ Players online at once, most of them in WOE. This battle is a 2v4 guild skirmish amongst some of the tops guilds:

Enchanters, Insurrection vs. Hijos, HyVent, LoveBeat, Imperials

WARNING: The clip does go for over 8 minutes

Want More?

This one here is the video clip for Hishoku no Sora by Mami Kawada. This is the real music video clip and not the animation from Shakugan no Shana. Mind you it's very weird.

Next!

I'm getting bored of 'Who's that girl?' so I'm changing it. The song was nice, but the clip that went with it didn't really highlight the words. The next few clips will comprise of the OPs and EDs of Shakugan no Shana. First up is the 1st OP.

Shakugan no Shana: Who's That Girl?

I really want to hurry this along so I'm going to change the video clips every two or three days. Just six more to go! This one is a fan made AMV with the song "Who's That Girl?"

Shakugan no Shana

After finishing the series recently I felt compelled to show it off. I'll be cycling a series of YouTube videos taken from the series including Opening and Ending animations and fan-made Clips.

Shakugan no Shana is a great series with a nice story. I won't bother with background. I'll let you figure that out from the clips. Shana is mostly in the genre of Fantasy/Romance. There is a love triangle that starts part of the way in (and to some extend a 2nd one as well), though it opens up again at the end.  Some of the secondary charaters are a bit shallow An interesting plot kept me watching but the problem was it seemed to pass too quickly. Fortunately a movie is on the way, rumoured to be released as early ae September. With this a second series should come soon after.

If you want more info on Shakugan no Shana I direct you to either:
                     Or

If you want it go search up "Shakugan no Shana Torrent" or something.
Or you can go to one of those dedicated anime torrent sites such as:

Anyway, the first clip I have for you is played to the sound of DHT: Listen To Your Heart (nice choice of song)

Weapons Training

On Monday 31st of July (today) Ramsay 6th Platoon (us) held our annual weapons training at Watsonia Army Barracks. Departure time was at 1230 hours and we returned to HQ and dismissed at 1600 hours.

The weapon we used were .22cal (yes, pitifully weak) Styres which are similar to Bullpups, F88s, Aug (which are all the same). They have scopes, which are plain 2x optical. Weights about 7kg by my estimate since I can't be bother looking up the specs. These ones had 30 round clips but we could only use 20 before reloading. As I said they're .22 which means they're shit as and seem to have no recoil whatsoever. Nevertheless they're still guns and can kill.

This is the procedure for loading and firing a Styr:
1: Grasp firearm by the pistol grip with your prefered hand. Do not hold the trigger.

2: Check that the safety catch is on. Turn it on if it's not.

3:Tilt firearm to the side of the prefered hand (e.g If holding in right hand tilt gun to right) and insert magazine.

4: Cock weapon by pulling back the slide all the way and releasing it.

5: Turn off safety and fire away.

6: When done turn safety on and remove magazine by holding the button behind the clip and pulling it out.

7: Cock the weapon, turn off safety and fire a non-existent round to pull back the hammer.

8: Turn safety off and lay firearm down in safety position.

     Tips for accuracy:
1: Lay prone when possible.

2: Exhale your breath before firing to prevent the scope from straying.

3: Push the butt of the gun into your shoulder to reduce the effect of recoil.

4: Remember to aim straight down the scope. If any part of the scope is dark or out of focus you are not looking straight down it.

Now back to the story:

We were aiming at targets 100m away with little if no wind. The targets them selves are circles about 50cm in length. A smaller 20cm circle is inside the larger one towards the top centre of the it. The purpose of this circle is to help adjust for gravity's effect of the bullet as it travels.

Anyway, we got about 70 rounds in total. First a three round pratice to adjust aim and position. Then 20 rounds in four 5 round groups. At the end of the 20 rounds, the distances between the furthest two shots in each group is recorded and the 4 measurements averaged out. This is whats known as the spread of the bullets. If you use some once of logic you can figure out that a smaller spread is more accurate and therefore more deadly. Unless they're hitting the wrong area of course. This was repeated three times.

And now, presenting my scores. My 1st clip produced a spread of 149.8mm. I was surprised by the recoil (or lack of). Still, I imagine it would be difficult to control one of these on full auto. My 2nd clip produced a better spread of 146.4mm. And there was my final one...I came so close. My first 13 shots landed within 60mm of each other. Then the 14 and 15 went off centre. I must've been rushing and forgot to check I was aiming properly. Number 16 landed with the others but then 17 went wide and completely past the target. I mean, how? Not one time did I aim away from the target but I might've misfired when I took my eye from the scope. Nineteen also went wide but 20 found it's mark. In the end the target looked something like this: 16 bullets hit the smaller circle from centre left to centre right. Three bullets hit outside the smaller circle landing in the arc between the left of the circle and the bottom. End result was 142mm. That's pretty good. I got a better score then the other two times with four less bullets. Had I hit the 17th my spread would have been below 110mm. If those three bullets had landed closer I may have easily got 85mm.

After that all the officers (corporal to lieutenant) held a competion amongst themselves for no particular reason. Sergeant Bokey (think that's how you spell it) ended up winning beating Lieutenant Dedrick by 2 points out of 200.

The Australian Army Cadets

I thought I ought to write about something so I'll write about this.

And that's about all you need to know. I'll fill you in with pieces of random knowledge at random times. Whatever I feel like doing.

Bleach, Suzumiya and Novastorm: An anime space

A shoutout goes here to my friends space Novastorm. Novastorm is a comprehensive and dedicated anime space. It inlcudes many anime reviews on current and past season anime series. It'll give you a clear idea on what's good and what's not. My friend has put many hours of work and effort into this space,  definitely much more than I have. This space is a must visit for any anime watchers out there. There is also a dedicated 'Bleach' space and one for 'The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruchi' which I believe is one of the best series I've seen so far. The sites are as follows:

Let's see some hits!

Incomprehensible things

As the title suggest, I will be making a list of incomprehensible things. This whole thing started from an argument in science which lasted the whole period. If anyone has something to add to the list they are more then welcome to. So here we go:

-How the brain works
-How the universe in infinite
-How the universe isn't infinite
-How there was nothing before something
-How it is to be born blind
-How the 4th dimension looks like
-Where a blackhole goes
-The concept of 'time travel'
-How light can travel so fast while having no mass
-How much we still don't know

This is the end...

...to the long hours of thinking I have put in to reach my decision. After more then 10 hours of research and thought I have decided to purchase the Asus A6QJA. An 80gb harddrive while small for a desktop is the 2nd largest available for a laptop. 1gb DDR2 RAM ensures things run smoothly and without that three letter l-word. ATI's X1600 is one of the latest advances in GPU technology. 128mb of dedicated memory would probably be enough for a few rounds of CS:S but if you  need it ATI's patented Hypermemory system allows you to borrow free RAM to increase your graphical power. With 1gb of RAM the maximum you can take the X1600 to 768mb. Other noteworthy qualities include a 1.3megapixle webcam, 8xDVD Dual layer drive with lightscribe, wireless 802.11G 10/100 & integrated Bluetooth. You would think it a laptop of this power would way a fair bit but it's only 2.85kg. To think it only has a 15" screen. With a Intel Dual Core T2300 1.66GHz it's probably faster then your computer. As you may see from the below chart a 1.66ghz Dual Core is equivalent to a AMD Athlon 64bit 4000+ (2.4 GHz), a Pentium 4 4.0ghz and most surprising of all a Dual 3.06ghz Server Xeon.

The only small problem is it's battery life. While it has an 8 cell Li-Ion battery. It only lives for 2.5hrs and acomes with a charge time of 4hrs. I plan to over come this by buying a 2nd battery. And the price? You don't want to know...but you should because it only cost $1999 from Computer World.
It also comes with a neat leather Asus case and mouse apparently valued at $100. I say this because you can buy this same laptop at Centre.com for $1899 without the package. Anyway, my parents are taking me to the shops this weekend to have a "look" at the computers. My mind's already made up.

About the laptops

All the examples I have given range from $1899-$2189. The NEC has about a 2hr battery life. The two LGs have about 3.5hrs. The rest have about 2.5hrs. The Asus and Sony have webcams. And the LGs are blue : )
